Sculpture

"Geode Head," 2019.

Geode Head, 2019, is a self-portrait sculpture. This sculpture was influenced by geode rocks. Geode rocks look like ordinary, ugly, bulky, dusty, rocks; but the inside is what makes them unique. Unlike other rocks, geodes are filled with crystals. These crystals are never the same. Some rocks may have similar colors or shapes, but the composition is always unique and will never be replicated in exact design. This self-portrait is a personal representation, but unlike many self-portraits the meaning can allow the viewer to see themselves in the portrait as well. Individuals can have the same hair color, eye color, ethnicity, etc., but what deciphers them from others is what is on the inside. This concept reflects on the idea of “never judge a book by its cover.” This sculpture is also a reflection of relationships in life, it takes a special person to uncover what is on the inside.
